The Unusual @ The Artichoke, circa 1996
From Left to Right :
The Enchanted Wanderer, Chris Jones, Guthrug Thrckmangler, Tranquillio the Sorcerer
On THIS day, or thereabouts, in 1996 the little known underground London outfit The Unusual unleashed four sided musical behemoth upon the planet, much to the ignorance of all but their mates and to the bemusement of the residents of Tennyson Road, Mill Hill.
Captain Boog Presents ... The Unusual was born from the fusion of four illuminated ex-Haberdashers, the last gust of wind issuing from the Passage of Mortal Thoughts, the last autumn leaf clinging to Herbert's Tree, the last child minded by the Hippy Childminders.
Four friends who had resolved to award themselves a sabbatical year of hallucinogens, orgiastic pub sessions and endless analysis of Beatles four-track bouncing techniques.
Yes, The Enchanted Warrior, that Byronically lyrical rogue, yes, Tranquillio the Sorceror, that Blakean beatnik systematically deranging his own senses, yes, Guthrug Trckmangler, reincarnated Viking warrior slaying fell beasts with a simple paradiddle, yes, Chris Jones, polyinstrumental technical genius and future poo scientist.
Not to forget the collaboration of the heavily armoured chorus The Bra Section, the full-english breakfast catering of Tennyson Road Inc., a way-gone american girl called Faith, various purveyors of wines, spirits and fine herbs, and the rest ...
And here they are, for the first time EVER in CyberSpace. A big hand or two for THE UNUSUAL!
